The much beloved breed of dogs featured as "Dire Wolves" in the HBO hit television series "Game of Thrones" have recently been imported to South Africa for the very first time!
Theresa Edwards of Asgard Kennels started negotiating with breeders in the UK over 2 years ago to bring the "Northern Inuit" to South Africa and after many long and hard negotiations, one of the few breeders agreed to allow her to import these magnificent creatures.
The "Northern Inuit" (NI) was first bred some 30 years ago to resemble a wolf look-alike and was specifically chosen for the role in the HBO production for this characteristic, however it has to be stressed that they are not bred from wolves whatsoever. Around the same time Game of Thrones first aired on South African television, Asgard Kennels also debuted the NI on our soil, since then Theresa has imported two further dogs and will be bringing in more early next year.
Asgard Kennels are an international member and registered breeder of the Northern Inuit Society in the UK and all the kennel's dogs have been specifically chosen under the society’s strict criteria for future breeding which includes certification of hips, eyes and elbows, further, all Asgard Kennel dogs are also registered with the South African Canine Breed Registry (SACBR).
Pups from future litters will come with SACBR and Northern Inuit Society (UK) pedigree certification and the next litter planned for 2014 will be sold only on a pet puppy contract which will be strictly enforced with thorough screening and home checks being conducted.
Theresa has specifically chosen a range of colours and characteristics for UK export and the first wolf look-alike dogs now in SA are absolutely stunning young adults, progeny living up highly to the Northern Inuit breed standards.
